A new beginning – a blog

Hi everyone, this you could say is a new beginning or something pretty old. It has seemed for ever that I have wanted to have my own blog relating purely to my work. For years I have hidden behind names such as the agencies I opened, the photographic business or some other entity in which there was a need to keep to the commercial image which I needed to keep my doors open to. It was never my own work, my own art, but after years of waiting you could say I have moved my art to where it should have been in the first place, in its own space where it reflects what it’s all about.

You could say it has taken a pandemic to get to this stage. The resources where always there, blogs and sites all profiling services I have worked it. Today, after a very sad walk through very lonely streets of Gibraltar there was a realization. A need to stop. A need to turn what is probably the most difficult moment in our modern history into something positive at least at an individual level for my own sanity. A way of at least thinking I started something and not look back later and regret not having done it.

There are millions of blogs out there so this is nothing new. Nor do I expect it to become anything other than my own personal public journal. But the mere fact I’m actually doing it is probably the first time, other than when I did my solo exhibition with Gibraltar Production in which I am putting myself forward as me, Stephen Ignacio.

Too many years where I placed my art into a secondary role has left its scars. And today it is still not my primary job and truthfully I am glad because I no longer want someone telling me or influencing what I am doing.

The blog I hope will be a way of showcasing and explaining my work. Hopefully also allowing me freedom to have some where I can also put my ideas and views in the public domain.

Maybe I might be able to help other artists by doing this and who knows maybe someone might enjoy my work and enjoy what I write, not that it matters though as the intention is not to create popularity but to have a platform which I can feel is my own personal platform. Away from the constraints of my job, commercial influences or others.

I’m sure during the present lockdown I will have a chance to write a few pieces.
